The Long Walk: Finding Hope on the Camino

Spain wasn’t even on my list of things to do in 2022. Much to my surprise God had plans long before the day I sat on an airplane heading for Madrid Spain. The Lord started working in my heart the moment I said yes to the calling. As we landed, we were greeted by the Casey’s, and little did I know the work that was ahead of me.

While we were there, we went a few hours away from Madrid and the Lord placed us in a little farm town called Ligonde. It was breathtaking there. While we were there, we worked at a pilgrim’s house called La Fuente on a trail that went from France to Santiago. On this trail are thousands of pilgrims who come from all over the world to try to heal from something, find faith in something or try to gain grace by their own works. The problem is that they don’t usually find what they are looking for. So many will walk it again and again.

My heart was absolutely broken for these people. Thousands of them are willing to do anything to find hope in a place where no hope can be found. Except one little pilgrims house that sits in Ligonde Spain that is the only evangelical stop on the entire trail. Here they found free water, food, a place to rest and the answer to what they are looking for… Jesus. We were able to share the God of hope and grace with people from over 50 countries in the short week we were there. It was astounding.

We built relationships there, night after night. We saw one lady come to know Christ as her Savior and many others who listened and wanted to learn more about this Jesus, we were telling them about. We were able to send with them things to think about and tracks that had La Fuentes information on them so that they could contact them if they wanted to. The cool thing is they do call and email La Fuente letting them know the impact they had on them and some of them even continue to ask questions.

This is a place that the Lord is actively moving and changing lives. Anywhere Jesus is transformation is also there. It was a huge blessing to be a part of this incredible journey and I would tell anyone and everyone that if they can go, they should go to see what God is up to! It is incredible.

If you would like to hear more about the Caseys and their ministry, they will be at Ridgecrest along with many of our Global Impact Partners during Global Missions Week in October 2022!
